What made You want to serve?
My uncle was a fire captain in Georgetown County when I was a kid, and he was more than just family—he was my role model. He taught me what it meant to be a man: to lead with integrity, to serve without hesitation, and to always put others before myself. I watched the way he loved the job, the way he spoke about his crew like they were family, and the way he found true purpose in helping others. Seeing that, I knew I wanted to feel that same kind of fulfillment. I took a leap into firefighting, hoping to find what he had—and I did. From the moment I stepped into the firehouse, I knew I was home. Serving my community has given me a sense of purpose I never knew I needed, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything

If You could go back in time and talk to the 12-year-old You, what would you tell yourself?
I would tell my 12-year-old self; “You don’t know it yet, but the man you admire so much, your uncle, is shaping the person you’re going to become. One day, you’ll put on the gear, step into a firehouse, and understand why he loved this job so much. You’re going to find purpose in helping others, and it’ll be the most rewarding thing you ever do. There will be hard days. Days when you are exhausted, days when you’ll question if you’re good enough. But you are. You’ll learn that strength isn’t about never feeling fear, it’s about pushing through it. You’ll meet people who become like family, and you’ll find joy in serving, just like your uncle did. So, keep that big heart. Keep wanting to help people. Keep looking up to those who lead with kindness and courage. Because one day, you’re going to be one of them.
